Sri-Lankan-Australian hornist Deepa Goonetilleke was born in 1985. She studied contemporary music, early music and orchestral music in Frankfurt am Main and Brisbane, Australia. Deepa plays regularly with the contemporary ensembles – Ensemble Modern, MusikFabrik, Ensemble Linea, Klangforum Heidelberg, Ensemble Ascolta, Ensemble Proton Bern and Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. She has also worked with the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Norrlands Opera Orchestra (Sweden) and the Würzburg Philharmoniker. As a chamber musician she has been a guest at festivals such as Warsaw Autumn Festival, Holland Festival, Ultraschall Festival Berlin, Tagen für Neue Musik (Zürich), Festival de Musique de Strasbourg, Acht Brücken (Cologne) and Podium Festival (Esslingen).

Deepa is a member of the award winning (Junge Ohren Preis) Lucerne Festival children´s show, Heroica. Heroica has toured successfully throughout Europe, performing in concert houses such as Vienna Konzerthaus, Elb Philharmonie, Luxembourg Philharmonie, and Kölner Philharmonie. Since 2017, she has been a member of Trio Radial, a unique combination of clarinet, horn and cello focusing on commissioning new music. From 2010-2011, Deepa was a member of the International Ensemble Modern Akademie and from 2012 – 2016, a scholarship holder of Live Music Now. She has been a recipient of the Fond Culturel National et la Fondation Michelle (Luxembourg) and also Kunstiftung NRW (Germany).
