Yuko Fukumae is born in Shiga, Japan in 1983. She studied under Sumio Yamakawa at the Ishiyama Senior High School in Shiga. She went on to study under Tomomi Takahashi at the Kyoto City University of Arts where she completed her bachelor’s degree with distinction. After this she studied under Prof. Johannes Peitz at the Hannover University of Music and Drama graduating in 2008. Since then she has studied chamber music there under Prof. Markus Becker. Yuko Fukumae attended the master classes of Wenzel Fuchs, François Benda, Sharon Kam and Martin Spangenberg. In 2007 she was a finalist in the Bayreuth International Music Competition and in 2008 she participated in the Orchestra Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. Since 2008 she has pursued graduate soloist studies at the Hannover University of Music and Drama. She was a scholarship student from IEMA2008/09 (International Ensemble Modern Akademie). She performs frequently as guest with Ensemble Modern and since 2008 she is member of Ensemble Linea in Strasbourg.
